Description

Position: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – Blood Bank

Shift: Nights, 11:00 PM – 11:30 AM

Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts

Department: Blood Bank / Clinical Laboratory

Schedule & Requirements

  • Night Shift: 11:00 PM – 11:30 AM
  • 3x12-hour schedule
  • Weekend coverage required
  • Float within the laboratory department as needed
  • No call requirement
  • Epic experience required
  • Louisiana License must be active and in hand at submission
  • One campus submission only

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent laboratory experience
  • Blood Bank experience required
  • Hospital laboratory experience required
  • Experience with:
    • Blood irradiation
    • Splitting blood products
    • Plasma reduction on plateletpheresis
    • Blood banking procedures
    • Crossmatching
    • Antibody identification
    • Quality control review and interpretation

Required Certifications

  • Active Louisiana Laboratory License (required)
  • ASCP Certification preferred
  • COVID-19 Vaccine Required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
  • Flu Vaccine Required (no exemptions)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform blood bank testing and transfusion services
  • Conduct ABO/Rh typing, antibody screens, antibody identification, and crossmatching
  • Process and prepare blood products for transfusion
  • Perform blood irradiation and specialized blood component modifications
  • Conduct hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and immunology testing
  • Review and validate laboratory results prior to release
  • Maintain quality assurance and quality control standards
  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment
  • Ensure proper specimen collection, processing, storage, and transport
  • Follow laboratory safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
