Description
L&D (Labor and Delivery) 3 years CA RN license required
Required Certifications
ACLS (AHA), AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM), BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Shift Notes
12 hour nights
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 3–5 years travel experience required
- Strong LDRP and MBC experience required
- Must be able to circulate in OR (scrubbing preferred for nights)
- Must be able to manage L&D, PP, PACU (mother recovery only)
- May float to mother-baby overflow or sitter role
- No post-op GYN on postpartum side
- No first-time travelers
Unit Notes – OT After 40
CHOMP is a smoke-free facility
- All drug reports must have a negative result for nicotine/cotinine
- If positive, submit for review if traveler has prescription nicotine patch
- No legitimate reason for positive nicotine/cotinine → contract will be cancelled

IMPORTANT:
- All RTO must be included at time of submission
- NO RTO will be approved after candidate is presented to facility
REQUIRED:
- Minimum 3 years of L&D experience (outside of training)
- Must have traveling experience (minimum 3 travel assignments)
- Comfortable with EPIC charting
- Comfortable circulating in the OR (Scrubbing is a bonus but not required)
- Experience with LDRP and MBC
- Must ensure LDRP experience is detailed on resume
- Will not accept straight L&D experience only
- This is a mother/baby couplet care labor & delivery environment
NOTE:
- If submitting to NIGHT SHIFT: Scrubbing is required
- No first-time travelers
UNIT OVERVIEW
- Unit: LDRP / Family Birthing Center
- # of beds: 13 beds (L&D, Postpartum, Recovery) – avg census fluctuates
- Birth volume: ~100 deliveries/month
- Approx: 105 births/month average
- Ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: Yes
- EFM System: Philips
- Telemetry: No cardiac tele, monitor techs not used
PATIENT POPULATION / SKILLS
- Level 1 birthing center
- 32 weeks and greater
- Twin deliveries
- High-risk patients transferred out
- Must be able to manage full labor process independently
- No midwives or midlevels on unit
- High patient expectations for customer service
- Must be confident, competent, professional, and quick on feet
- Travelers expected to be resource nurses on night shift
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring
- STABLE (preferred)
DRIPS
- Magnesium sulfate
- Pitocin
- Insulin
- RN titration required
STAFFING / SUPPORT
- Charge nurse/house supervisor present (usually no patient assignment)
- Admit/triage/resource nurse at times
- No nurse aides or surgical techs
- Neonatologist available (not in-house; ~30 min response time)
- OB hospitalist in-house ~85% of time; otherwise ~30 min response
SCHEDULING
- 12-hour shifts (7–7)
- Travelers fill gaps; no block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: may be every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: expected to work holidays
- Call/standby: may be placed on call for low census
- Possible cancellations per contract terms
