Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Martinsville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Facility & Unit Overview

• Acute-care hospital with 220 licensed beds
• Emergency Department with 34 beds
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Serves all age groups (pediatric, adult, geriatric)
• Electronic Health Record system: Medhost
• Common diagnoses treated: Chest Pain, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Psychiatric cases
• Shift: 36 hours per week, weekend hours as needed every other weekend
• Call requirements: As needed
• Float requirements: As needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications required prior to start:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

Orientation & Compliance

• Orientation offered bi-weekly on Tuesdays
• Must consent to random drug screening and complete a criminal questionnaire/consent form
• Random drug screens conducted on site

• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Located in a community with outdoor recreation, cultural events, and local attractions such as the Virginia Museum of Natural History and Blue Ridge Mountains
