Surgical Tech – CVOR
Location: Cooperstown, NY
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Days
Weekly Hours: 36 hours (3x12)
Job Overview:
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – CVOR provides specialized surgical support during cardiovascular procedures, ensuring the operating room is prepared, sterile, and equipped for complex cardiac surgeries. The CVOR Tech works closely with surgeons, perfusionists, nurses, and anesthesia providers to deliver safe and efficient patient care. Candidates must be comfortable working in both cardiovascular and general surgical settings due to daily floating requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scrub independently for open-heart and cardiovascular surgical procedures.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment for cardiac surgeries.
- Assist surgeons during CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting), valve repairs/replacements, and other cardiovascular procedures.
- Assist with vein harvesting using open techniques and endoscopic techniques when applicable.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide instruments and supplies efficiently.
- Ensure proper setup and handling of cardiovascular surgical instrumentation and equipment.
- Support procedures involving heart-lung bypass machines, cell saver technology, and other specialized CVOR equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential (NBSTSA)
- 2 years of CST- CVOR experience
- Recent CVOR experience with the ability to scrub open-heart cases independently.
- Experience assisting with vein harvesting.
- Experience in the following additional service lines:
- Vascular Surgery
- General Surgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical instrumentation and sterile technique.
Work Environment:
- Dedicated CVOR suite with cardiac surgery services.
- Daily floating to General OR, Vascular, and other surgical specialties as needed.
- Collaborative team environment including surgeons, perfusionists, nurses, and surgical technologists.
