Surgical Assistant (CSA) – Operating Room

10-Hour Day Shifts 

We are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) to join a busy Operating Room team supporting a wide range of surgical specialties. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surgical professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced hospital environment and enjoys working closely with surgeons throughout the entire surgical process.

Position Highlights

Surgical Specialties

Experience in the following areas is preferred:

• Orthopedics (high-volume service line)
• Robotics
• Urology
• General Surgery
• Vascular Surgery

Key Responsibilities

As a Surgical Assistant, you will serve as the surgeon's first or second assistant during operative procedures and play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient patient care.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting surgeons before, during, and after surgical procedures
• Maintaining sterile technique and protecting the integrity of the sterile field
• Preparing operating rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies
• Assisting with patient positioning, skin prep, draping, and catheter placement
• Handling surgical instruments, retractors, suction, cautery, and wound irrigation
• Assisting with tissue exposure, hemostasis, suturing, wound closure, and dressing application
• Supporting sponge, sharps, and instrument counts
• Communicating effectively with surgeons, nurses, and OR staff
• Participating in room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases
• Ensuring patient safety and compliance with surgical protocols

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of Surgical Assistant experience
• Recent hospital-based operating room experience
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant Program
• High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Certifications

• BLS (American Heart Association)
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through one of the following:
  • NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
  • NSAA (National Surgical Assistant Association)
  • NCCSA (National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants)

Call Requirements

• 2–3 weekday overnight call shifts every 6 weeks
• 2–3 weekend overnight call shifts every 6 weeks
• Some short shifts may be required
• Holiday call rotation required
