Patient Population

Common diagnoses include:

• Oncology/Hematology
• GI Bleeds
• PE/DVT
• Sepsis
• CHF
• COPD
• Pneumonia
• Failure to Thrive (FTT)
• General Medical Patients
• Weakness/Deconditioning

Note: Oncology certification or chemotherapy administration experience is not required. Internal staff handle chemotherapy treatments.

Ratios

• Days/Evenings: 1:4-5
• Nights: 1:6
• May occasionally increase to 1:7 if staffing is short.

CNA Support

• Days/Evenings: 1 CNA : 7-9 patients
• Nights: 1 CNA : 14 patients maximum

Required Skills

Candidates must be comfortable with:

• Acute Care nursing
• Complex medical patients
• Telemetry awareness
• Blood transfusions
• Managing titratable drips

Common Drips

Must have experience with:

• Insulin
• Heparin
• Cardizem
• Nitro
• Amiodarone
• Octreotide

Telemetry

• Centralized Telemetry Technicians monitor rhythms.
• Nurses are not required to independently interpret strips.
• RNs should be telemetry aware and recognize rhythm changes.

Respiratory Equipment

May care for patients utilizing:

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High Flow Oxygen

RT coverage available 24/7.

Scheduling

Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Additional flexibility may be requested for:

• 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
• Variable Day/Evening schedules

Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed.

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Every Other Weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
• Winter Holidays: 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Other Holidays: Every Other Holiday

Floating Requirements

Travelers are first to float.
May float:

• Between Med-Surg units
• Observer assignments
• Helping hands/task-based assignments

Floating occurs in 4-hour increments.

Orientation

• 1 Day Hospital Orientation/CBT Training
• 1 Unit Orientation Shift (12 Hours)

Charge Nurse Information

• Charge Nurse and House Supervisor on every shift.
• Charge Nurse carries a reduced patient load.
• Travelers may be asked to function as Charge Nurse if comfortable, particularly on nights.
