Description

PCU / IMC / Med Surg RN – Recruiter Quick Summary

Specialty: PCU / IMC / Med Surg RN
Required Certs: BLS, ACLS
EMR: Cerner (Required)
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Travel Duos: Accepted
Local Radius: 80 miles (local rate applies)

Must-Have Requirements

✅ Minimum 1 year PCU experience OR prior ICU experience

✅ Cerner experience required

✅ Comfortable with telemetry interpretation

✅ Strong documentation and patient care skills

⚠️ MS/Tele-only experience is NOT acceptable

Unit Details

  • 12 Acute Care Beds + 4 ICU Rooms
  • Average Census: 8 Patients
  • 2 RNs staffed at all times
  • Team Nursing Model (RN + LPN)

Ratios

  • ICU: 1:3
  • PCU/IMC: 1:3–4
  • Med Surg: 1:5

Common Patient Population

  • Pneumonia
  • COVID
  • Post-op Knee/Hip Replacements
  • Falls
  • General Medical Patients

Drips Required

IMC/PCU

  • Amiodarone
  • Heparin

ICU

  • Levophed
  • Cardizem
  • Dobutamine
  • Other Pressors

Must be comfortable titrating drips.

Telemetry

  • Remote telemetry monitoring
  • RNs must independently read and interpret rhythm strips

Charge Expectations

  • Charge nurse carries a small assignment
  • Travelers may be asked to function as Charge Nurse

Support Staff

  • CNA available based on census
  • Vented patients transferred to higher level of care

Scheduling & Requirements

  • Every 3rd weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
  • Work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
  • Travelers expected to help fill schedule gaps

Call / Standby

  • Low census standby rotation required
  • 45-minute response time
  • Less likely to be called off if willing to float

Floating

May float to:

  • ED for tasking
  • ED hold patients

If declining float opportunities, traveler may be sent home and lose hours.

Orientation

  • 4 Hours CBT/Onboarding
  • 8 Hours Unit Training
