• Primary Stroke Center
• 91 Beds

Unit Details:

• ICU Beds: 14
• Experience Required: 2+ years ICU
• First-time travelers accepted

Patient Population:

• General: Sepsis, Pneumonia, COVID, COPD, Resp. Failure, Renal/Liver Failure, GI Bleeds, DKA
• Cardiac: CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, Post-cath (radial/femoral)
• Trauma: GSW, Stabbings, Falls
• Surgical: GYN, GI (SBO), GU
• Neuro: SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, Syncope
• No cardiovascular surgeries

Ratios:

• 1:1–1:3
• 2 patients supported with:
  • Team nursing (MedSurg RN support)
  • ICU placement for selected MS patients
  • Vented patients: ICU RN (vent), MS RN (patient care)

Required Certifications:

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Required)
• TNCC (Preferred)

Core Skills:

• Ventilator & Trach management
• Chest tubes, drains, invasive lines (A-line, CVP)
• Cardiac monitoring & rhythm interpretation
• Surgical recovery
• Drip titration (pressors, sedation, cardiac, pain, paralytics)
• EMR: EPIC (Required)

Preferred: EVDs, CVVH, IABP, abdominal pressure monitoring

Unit Support:

• Charge RN (takes assignment)
• 1–2 CNAs / shift
• Tele monitoring (central + bedside)
• HUC (day shift)
• Break Buddy system
• 24/7: RT, Hospitalists, Intensivist
• OT/PT/ST (days)

Equipment:

• EMR: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating:

• Facility-wide within scope
• If MedSurg/Tele/ED boarding → ratio 1:4
• Travelers float first

● Orientation:

• 2 days total
  • Day 1: Onboarding + unit intro
  • Day 2: 12-hr shift with preceptor

Schedule:

• Shift: 12hr Night (1900–0700)
• Weekend: Every other
• On-call: None
• Holiday: 1 per contract
• RTO: Up to 7 days
• Schedule Cycle: 6 weeks

• Scrubs: Solid professional colors only
• Parking: Free
