Unit Overview

The Birthing Center is a Level I Low-Risk Maternity Unit utilizing:

• Single-Room Maternity Care (LDRP Model)
• Family-Centered Care
• Orem's Self-Care Nursing Theory
• Inpatient and Outpatient Maternal Care

Patient Population

The RN may care for:

✅ Antepartum Patients

✅ Intrapartum (Labor) Patients

✅ Postpartum Mothers

✅ Newborn Stabilization

✅ Normal Newborn Care

✅ Pediatric Patients During the Perinatal Period

✅ Cesarean Section Patients (Pre-op, Recovery, Postpartum)

✅ Clean Female Surgical Cases

✅ Therapeutic Abortion Patients (when staffing permits)

RN Responsibilities

• Comprehensive maternal and newborn assessment
• Nursing diagnosis and care planning
• Labor monitoring and fetal assessment
• Medication administration
• Postpartum care
• Newborn stabilization and routine newborn care
• Patient and family education
• Care coordination
• Documentation and evaluation of patient outcomes
