Travel Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) / Medical Technologist (MT) – General Lab & Blood Bank

Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: 2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Schedule: 5x8-Hour Shifts
Weekend Requirement: Every Third Weekend (subject to department needs)
EMR: Epic
 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) to join a dynamic clinical laboratory team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience across all laboratory departments, with particular expertise in Blood Bank operations. This role supports comprehensive laboratory testing and plays a critical role in delivering accurate diagnostic results that directly impact patient care.

Medical laboratory professionals perform microscopic, bacteriological, hematological, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic testing on blood, urine, tissue, stool, body fluids, and other patient specimens.
 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, STAT, and specialized laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Analyze and report test results accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform blood bank procedures including:
    • ABO/Rh testing
    • Antibody screening and identification
    • Crossmatching
    • Antigen typing
    • Cord blood evaluations
    • Transfusion reaction investigations
  • Conduct hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology testing.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and quality assurance standards.
  • Process, label, accession, and prepare patient specimens.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize Epic EMR and laboratory information systems for documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • Active ASCP certification (MLT, MT, or MLS).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent laboratory experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year of Epic EMR experience required.
  • Experience working in all areas of the laboratory, especially Blood Bank.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality control and instrumentation.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous travel assignment experience preferred but not required.
  • First-time travelers will be considered based on relevant experience.
  • Previous charge or leadership experience preferred.
  • Community hospital experience preferred.
  • Experience in Trauma Level I or II facilities preferred.
