Travel Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) – Blood Bank | Night Shift
 

Contract Length: 07 Weeks
Shift: Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts
Weekend Requirement: Every Third Weekend
Call Requirement: None
Floating: Within facility and scope of practice as needed
Specialty Focus: Blood Bank (Primary Role)
 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) with strong Blood Bank expertise for a night shift travel assignment. This role is primarily focused on transfusion services and immunohematology testing within a high-acuity hospital laboratory setting.

Medical laboratory professionals perform microscopic, bacteriological, hematological, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic testing on patient specimens including blood, urine, tissue, stool, and other body fluids to support accurate diagnosis and patient care.

Important: Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) are not accepted for this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret complex Blood Bank and transfusion services testing.
• Conduct ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, and crossmatching.
• Perform antigen typing and transfusion reaction workups.
• Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
• Perform routine and STAT laboratory testing across core lab disciplines as needed.
• Ensure accuracy in specimen processing, labeling, accessioning, and reporting.
• Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards.
• Utilize laboratory information systems for documentation and result reporting.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Technologist/MLS experience.
• Active ASCP, ASCP-MLT, ASCP-BB, AMT, or ABB certification accepted.
• Strong Blood Bank experience required.
• Prior travel experience required.
• Experience with Epic or similar EMR preferred/required (per facility guidelines).
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

• Trauma Level I or II hospital laboratory experience.
• Strong experience in immunohematology and transfusion reaction workups.
• Familiarity with complex blood bank procedures and antibody identification.

• MLT candidates are not eligible for this role.
• Maximum 7 days RTO per contract.
• Holidays may be required depending on assignment schedule.
• Full compliance must be completed prior to start; delays may impact start date.
• Clinical screening required prior to final manager review.
• Local candidates accepted at same rate.

This assignment is ideal for an experienced Medical Technologist with strong Blood Bank expertise who is comfortable working night shifts in a high-volume acute care hospital laboratory.
