Position Overview

Chenega is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support clinical laboratory operations by performing diagnostic testing, specimen processing, quality control, and laboratory documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and safety regulations.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing on blood, urine, body fluids, and other clinical specimens.
  • Collect, receive, process, label, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of laboratory results in accordance with established protocols.
  • Conduct quality control procedures and participate in quality assurance initiatives.
  • Follow CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility-specific laboratory standards and safety guidelines.
  • Identify and report abnormal test results or equipment issues promptly.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, and reagents while ensuring proper storage conditions.
  • Assist with specimen transport and proper chain-of-custody procedures when required.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory field.
  • Current certification such as MLT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), AMT, or equivalent (if required by the facility).
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of recent clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis, and specimen processing.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in hospital or acute care laboratory settings.
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and laboratory safety practices.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care.
