W.W. Hastings Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This opportunity is ideal for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced acute care environment and are comfortable caring for a diverse patient population, including pediatric patients.

Job Description:
The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care utilizing evidence-based practices and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The RN collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to promote optimal outcomes while maintaining professional and ethical nursing standards.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions and responses to treatment.
- Develop individualized patient care plans based on assessments, physician orders, and patient/family needs.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
- Recognize changes in patient status and initiate appropriate interventions during emergency situations.
- Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care measures.
- Coordinate patient care activities among physicians, therapists, ancillary departments, and nursing staff.
- Delegate appropriate patient care responsibilities to LPNs and unlicensed personnel while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities, professional accountability, and effective communication skills.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based activities.
Requirements:
Education & Licensure:
✔ Active Oklahoma RN License or Compact RN License
✔ Graduate from an accredited nursing program
Experience:
✔ Minimum 3 years of recent Med Surg experience
✔ Experience in a busy, high-volume Med Surg environment required
✔ Pediatric patient care experience preferred.
Certifications:
✔ BLS – Required
✔ ACLS – Required
✔ PALS – Required
NIHSS - 8 stroke CEUs certifications required.
Additional Qualifications:
✔ Strong critical thinking and prioritization skills
✔ Excellent verbal and written communication
✔ Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
✔ Must meet all credentialing requirements, including background check and drug screening
✔ Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical demands associated with bedside nursing.
