Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and patient-focused Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Medical-Surgical team on a 13-week contract assignment. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and ensure safe, evidence-based patient care throughout hospitalization.

The ideal candidate is adaptable, clinically competent, and experienced in caring for diverse patient populations within a fast-paced acute care environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to adult Medical-Surgical patients according to established standards of practice.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized nursing care plans.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and treatments safely and accurately.
  • Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes, and communicate findings promptly to physicians and the healthcare team.
  • Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge instructions, and disease management.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, therapists, case managers, pharmacists, and ancillary staff.
  • Operate and monitor medical equipment including IV pumps, telemetry monitors, PCA pumps, and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Maintain infection prevention and patient safety standards at all times.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations and changes in patient condition.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and patient safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred (facility dependent).
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar EMR systems) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Acute care Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
  • IV therapy and medication administration proficiency.
  • Time management and multitasking in high-volume patient care settings.
  • Patient education and discharge planning.
  • Wound care and postoperative patient management.
  • Telemetry monitoring experience (preferred).
  • Infection prevention and quality care practices.
  • Effective collaboration within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
