Assignment Overview:
W.W. Hastings Hospital is seeking an experienced Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This is an excellent opportunity for PACU nurses who thrive in a high-volume perioperative environment and are comfortable recovering surgical patients in a fast-paced setting.
Position Details:
- Location: W.W. Hastings Hospital – Tahlequah, OK
- Contract Length: 13 Weeks
- Start Date: 07/13/2026
- End Date: 10/10/2026
- Shift: Days
- Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Hours: 40 Hours Weekly
- Call Requirement: One weekday call shift per week and one weekend call rotation per month
- Employment Type: Travel Contract
Job Description:
The PACU Registered Nurse provides comprehensive post-anesthesia nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures. The RN is responsible for monitoring patient status, identifying complications, administering medications, managing pain, and ensuring safe recovery prior to discharge or transfer.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, and evaluate patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
- Perform ongoing assessments including airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, pain control, and neurological evaluations.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to postoperative complications and emergency situations.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and therapeutic interventions according to physician orders.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, oxygenation status, and respiratory function during recovery.
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, perioperative staff, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families regarding postoperative expectations, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation utilizing the Cerner Electronic Medical Record system.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention practices, medication safety standards, and hospital policies.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency in current PACU standards of care.

Requirements:
Licensure
✅ Active Oklahoma RN License or Compact RN License
Certifications:
✅ BLS – Required
✅ ACLS – Required
✅ PALS – Required
✅ NIHSS - 8 Strokes CEUs Certifications required.
Experience:
✅ Minimum 3 years of recent PACU experience required
✅ 5+ years preferred
✅ Experience recovering a variety of surgical cases preferred
✅ Previous experience in a high-volume inpatient PACU strongly preferred
EMR Experience
✅ Cerner experience required.

• Are you comfortable maintaining a 1:4 patient assignment with a maximum ratio of 1:6?
• Do you have recent Cerner experience?

• Are you willing to participate in weekly call rotations and one weekend call per month?
