Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) 

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients who require close monitoring and a higher level of care than a medical-surgical unit but do not require intensive care. The PCU RN assesses patient conditions, administers treatments, monitors cardiac rhythms, and collaborates with the healthcare team to promote optimal patient outcomes.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, monitor, and evaluate patients with complex medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and other prescribed treatments.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized nursing care plans.
• Operate and monitor telemetry equipment and other patient monitoring devices.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate findings to the healthcare team.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
