Job Overview
- Facility: Aspirus Wausau Hospital (Level II Trauma Center)
- Location: Wausau, WI (Greater Green Bay Region)
- Position: Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care (IMC) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Note: Contract officially terminates on a Sunday)
- Target Start Date: ASAP / 07/20/2026
- Hours: 36 hours per week (Eligible for up to 36 hours of low-census tracking per contract, applied in hourly/4-hour blocks).
- Shift: Days | 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
- Schedule Details: Every other weekend and every other holiday required. No regular on-call.
Job Description & Unit Details
Join a high-acuity, fast-paced 36-bed Med-Surg Intermediate Care Unit. Operating at a 4:1 patient ratio, this unit requires high resilience, fast clinical tasking, and comfortable autonomy with complex stepdown and post-trauma nursing interventions.
- Patient Ratio: 4:1
- Clinical Profiles: Heavy Telemetry tracking, stable/weaning mechanical ventilators, active tracheostomies, sepsis management, alcohol detoxification, GI bleeds, chest tubes, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), orthopedic/spinal cord traumas, stroke, and continuous insulin drips.
- Charting System: EPIC (Experience highly preferred).
- Floating Policy: Required to float to all higher-acuity inpatient units across the facility as needed.
- Scrub Dress Code: Any solid color scrubs.
Requirements
Experience & Competencies (Strict Mandates)
- Total Experience: Minimum 2+ years of firm Stepdown / Intermediate / PCU experience. (ICU background or Level II Trauma experience is highly preferred).
- Travel History: Must have at least 1 successfully completed prior travel assignment.
- Skill Prerequisites: Proven, hands-on Ventilator and Tracheostomy management experience is strictly required.
Licensure & Certifications
- State License: Active Wisconsin (WI) RN license or active multi-state Compact license in hand.
- Certifications: AHA or American Red Cross issued BLS and ACLS.
Facility Submission Rules
- Strict Radius Restriction: The candidate's permanent residential address must sit outside a 50-mile physical radius from Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
- Orientation Hours: GSA hours are not guaranteed during the initial week of orientation.
