Critical Care RN (ICU/CVICU/PCU Float) – Travel Contract

🏥 Critical Care Service Line: CVICU, Medical ICU, COVID ICU & PCU

 

Unit Details

Critical Care Service Line includes:

  • CVICU – 12 beds
  • COVID ICU – 8 beds
  • Medical ICU – 8 beds
  • PCU – 16 beds (up to 20 with double occupancy)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • ICU: 1:1–2
  • PCU: 1:3–4

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS

Required Clinical Experience

Candidates must have strong recent Critical Care experience with:

  • Ventilator management and troubleshooting
  • ABG interpretation
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG interpretation
  • Titration of vasoactive drips
  • Weaning ventilators
  • Chest tubes
  • Arterial lines
  • Swan-Ganz catheters
  • CRRT
  • STEMI/Post-MI patients
  • Sepsis
  • DKA
  • Acute Respiratory Failure
  • COVID critical care
  • Surgical ICU patients

Preferred Experience

  • IABP
  • Prismaflex CRRT
  • Impella
  • Fresh Open Heart recovery
  • TAVR
  • VAD devices
  • EVD management
  • CEA
  • PCI

Common Drips

  • Levophed
  • Dopamine
  • Heparin
  • Argatroban
  • Propofol
  • Sedation agents
  • Paralytics
  • Antiarrhythmics
  • Other ICU vasoactive medications

Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts (7:00–7:00)
  • Self-scheduling requests considered but finalized by manager
  • Block scheduling generally not available
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per pay period
  • Winter holiday rotation required

Floating

Traveler will float according to unit rotation and may float to:

  • PCU
  • Medical Surgical Telemetry
  • East Campus ICU/PCU

Orientation

  • 8-hour hospital orientation
  • One 12-hour preceptor shift
  • One 12-hour buddy shift
  • Additional orientation/checkoffs provided for specialty skills (Open Heart, CRRT, etc.)

Dress Code

  • Professional scrubs (any solid color; no camouflage)

Ideal Candidate

✔ Strong ICU/CVICU background

✔ Excellent EKG interpretation skills

✔ Comfortable managing ventilators, CRRT, and advanced cardiac devices

✔ Able to float across ICU and PCU settings

✔ Experience with fresh hearts, Impella, IABP, or Prismaflex CRRT is highly preferred
