Description
CVICU RN – Travel Contract
🏥 Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Auto-Offer Criteria
- Auto Offer after prescreen if:
- Requested Time Off (RTO) is less than 7 days
- No holiday requests
Facility Requirements
- 50-mile radius rule
- Candidate cannot have worked (FT/PT/PRN) for any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year
- Travel duos are accepted, but:
- Must have separate vehicles
- Will not share the same schedule
- Must pass a Dysrhythmia Exam (minimum 80%) within 2 attempts before contract signing
- Failure results in DNU for CommonSpirit Arizona & Sacramento Region for 6 months
Unit Details
- 12-bed CVICU
- Nurse-to-patient ratio:
- 1:1 (high acuity)
- 1:2 (standard)
Required Experience
- More than 2 years of recent CVICU experience
- Must have experience with:
- Fresh Open Heart Surgery (directly from the OR)
- IABP
- CRRT
- Impella experience is highly preferred
Required Certifications
- ACLS
- BLS
Common Patient Population
- Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI)
- Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
- Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
- Fresh Open Heart Surgery patients
Required Clinical Skills
- Titration of vasoactive drips
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Ventilator management
- Care of critically ill cardiovascular patients
Common Drips
- Dexmedetomidine (Dex)
- Propofol
- Dopamine
- Neosynephrine
- Epinephrine
- Levophed
- Insulin
- Cardene
Monitoring & Equipment
- In-room Nihon Kohden monitors
- RN responsible for telemetry interpretation (no monitor techs)
- Equipment includes:
- Mechanical ventilators
- BiPAP
- CPAP
- Vapotherm
- High-flow oxygen
Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts (7:00–7:00)
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend shifts every pay period (2 weeks)
- May not be every other weekend
- Weekend assignments are based on unit needs
- Holiday rotation required
- Up to 3 low-census call shifts during a 13-week assignment
Floating
May float based on competency to:
- ICU
- PCU
- Medical-Surgical
- Telemetry
- Both hospital campuses
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation provided
EMR
- Cerner
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
Ideal Candidate
✔ 2+ years of recent CVICU experience
✔ Fresh Open Heart recovery experience
✔ Strong IABP and CRRT skills
✔ Comfortable titrating multiple vasoactive drips
✔ Able to interpret cardiac rhythms independently
✔ Impella experience is a strong advantage
