PCU RN – Cardiac Progressive Care Travel Contract

🏥 Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Cardiac/Critical Care Service Line

Auto-Offer Criteria

  • Auto Offer following prescreen approval

Unit Details

  • 16-bed PCU (up to 20 patients with double occupancy)
  • Part of the Critical Care Service Line
  • Hospitalists manage PCU patients

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

  • 1:3–4 depending on patient acuity

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Active Arizona RN License

Minimum Experience

  • At least 1 year of recent PCU experience

Required Clinical Skills

Candidates must be experienced with:

  • Cardiac rhythm/EKG interpretation
  • IV cardiac medication administration
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Chronic ventilator patients
  • Chest tube management
  • Epidural catheters
  • PCA pumps
  • Transvenous pacing
  • Arterial and venous sheath removal/care
  • Invasive monitoring

Common Patient Population

  • Post-cardiac catheterization patients
  • STEMI/NSTEMI
  • 2–3 day post-open heart surgery patients
  • Cardiac surgical patients
  • Chronic ventilator patients
  • Alcohol withdrawal
  • Suicidal ideation
  • New BiPAP/CPAP patients
  • Thoracotomy patients
  • Renal disease patients

Equipment & EMR

  • Cerner EMR
  • Philips cardiac monitors
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Welch Allyn vital sign monitors
  • Medtronic pacemakers
  • Zoll R Series defibrillators
  • Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
  • Mistral Air warming units

Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts
    • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 3 shifts per week required
  • Opportunity to work 4 shifts per week at regular pay, if approved

Floating

  • Preferred: Float to ICU based on competency
  • Required: Float to Med/Surg and Telemetry units
  • Must be comfortable caring for patients with arterial lines and sheath pulls

Orientation

  • Unit-specific orientation focused on fast-paced cardiac and cardiac surgery care

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Business-appropriate natural hair color

Ideal Candidate

✔ At least 1 year of recent PCU experience

✔ Strong cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretation skills

✔ Experience with post-cardiac surgery and cath lab patients

✔ Comfortable with invasive lines, chest tubes, and advanced cardiac care

✔ Flexible with floating to ICU and Med/Surg/Telemetry units
