Unit: Surgical ICU (SICU) / Medical ICU (MICU) – Level I Trauma Center

Shift: 3x12s (Days/Nights)

Experience Required:

• Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience (mandatory)
• Experience must include Neuro ICU or CVICU
• First-time travelers accepted only if they meet the experience requirement
• Level I Trauma experience preferred

Required Certifications:

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Patient Ratio:

• ICU: 1:1–1:2

Patient Population:

• Level I trauma
• Neuro surgery/craniotomy
• Stroke (CVA), post-tPA
• Sepsis, ARDS, COVID
• DKA
• CRRT (preferred)
• Open heart (CABG/Valves)
• TAVR
• IABP
• Impella
• ECMO
• Vascular surgery
• Post-op cardiac patients

Required Skills:

• ICU drip titration
• Ventilator management
• Hemodynamic monitoring
• Interpret telemetry strips
• Trauma and/or Neuro ICU experience
• Cardiac ICU experience preferred

Common Drips:

• Propofol
• Precedex
• Fentanyl
• Versed
• Levophed
• Vasopressin
• Cardene
• Labetalol
• Dopamine
• Dobutamine
• Heparin
• Insulin
• Ketamine
• Rocuronium

Floating:

• Float between SICU, MICU, Overflow ICU
• May float to Telemetry (1:3–1:4 ratio)

Schedule:

• Self-scheduling (manager balances)
• 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
• No scheduled call
• May be low-censused up to 3 times per contract

• Cerner

Ideal Candidate

• 3+ years recent ICU experience
• Neuro ICU or CVICU background
• Comfortable with trauma, ventilators, vasoactive drips, telemetry interpretation, and floating between ICU units.
