 Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – Behavioral Health

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to adult psychiatric patients under the supervision of an RN or provider.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and accurately document care in the electronic medical record.
• Utilize EPIC for clinical documentation and electronic patient charting.
• Conduct electronic patient rounding and use Rover for vital signs, food intake documentation, and clinical photography as needed.
• Monitor patients for changes in mental and physical condition and promptly communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
• Maintain a safe therapeutic environment while utilizing approved crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support individualized treatment plans.
• Care for patients with both psychiatric and medical comorbidities while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Patient Population

The unit cares for adult patients with a variety of behavioral health and medical conditions, including:

• ADHD
• Bipolar Disorder
• Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Eating Disorders
• PTSD
• Anxiety Disorders
• Depression and Major Depressive Disorder
• Psychotic Disorders
• Oppositional Defiant Disorder
• Substance Use Disorders
• Alcohol or Opiate Withdrawal (typically medically stable upon admission)
• Hypertension
• Diabetes
• Geriatric patients with high fall risk
• Patients experiencing pain or requiring basic wound care

Special Procedures & Equipment

• Electronic patient rounding
• Rover device for vital signs, food intake documentation, and clinical photography
• ObservSmart patient monitoring system

Requirements

• Active California LVN License
• Current BLS Certification
• Recent EPIC experience (within the last 6 months)
• Current certification in one of the following crisis intervention programs:
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • ProAct
  • PMAB
  • MOAB
  • Handle With Care
• Recent inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient care skills
• Ability to manage challenging behaviors while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment
