Description
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – Behavioral Health
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult psychiatric patients under the supervision of an RN or provider.
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and accurately document care in the electronic medical record.
- Utilize EPIC for clinical documentation and electronic patient charting.
- Conduct electronic patient rounding and use Rover for vital signs, food intake documentation, and clinical photography as needed.
- Monitor patients for changes in mental and physical condition and promptly communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment while utilizing approved crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support individualized treatment plans.
- Care for patients with both psychiatric and medical comorbidities while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Patient Population
The unit cares for adult patients with a variety of behavioral health and medical conditions, including:
- ADHD
- Bipolar Disorder
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Eating Disorders
- PTSD
- Anxiety Disorders
- Depression and Major Depressive Disorder
- Psychotic Disorders
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Substance Use Disorders
- Alcohol or Opiate Withdrawal (typically medically stable upon admission)
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- Geriatric patients with high fall risk
- Patients experiencing pain or requiring basic wound care
Special Procedures & Equipment
- Electronic patient rounding
- Rover device for vital signs, food intake documentation, and clinical photography
- ObservSmart patient monitoring system
Requirements
- Active California LVN License
- Current BLS Certification
- Recent EPIC experience (within the last 6 months)
- Current certification in one of the following crisis intervention programs:
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- ProAct
- PMAB
- MOAB
- Handle With Care
- Recent inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient care skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment

Staff constantly switched. My documents weren't sent to the school, resulting in a months lost pay. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get on touch with anyone to answer questions. I have been attempting to reach them for over a month with absolutely no response! They lose paperwork (tests, immunizations, background checks and fingerprints) resulting in even more lost work.
