CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Nights | 36 Hours/Week

• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Start Date: 07/20/2026
• Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience. First-time travelers are welcome with prior CVICU experience.

Licensure & Certifications

• Required: Maryland RN License, BLS, ACLS, and CPI
• Preferred: NIH Stroke Scale (NIH), OCN, and TNCC certifications

Scheduling Requirements

• Every third weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating to the MSICU as needed
• On-call requirement of 24–32 hours during each rotating 8-week schedule

Unit Overview

• Average Daily Census: 3–5 patients
• Unit Size: 6 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2

Common Patient Population

• Post-operative cardiac surgery patients (CABG, MVR, AVR)
• Cardiac surgery readmissions and ICU bounce-back patients
• Structural heart procedures (TAVR, MitraClip)
• Pre-operative cardiac patients under the hospital intensivist service
• STEMI/NSTEMI
• Cardiogenic shock
• Patients undergoing Inari procedures

Special Procedures & Clinical Responsibilities
The CVICU manages high-acuity cardiac patients, including:

• First 6 hours of post-operative cardiac surgery care
• Patients requiring two or more inotropic medications
• Hemodynamic instability and advanced cardiac output management
• Severe coagulopathy
• Open chest management
• OHS/Impella support
• ECMO (perfusionist on-site)
• CRRT (dialysis services on-site)
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
• Other complex cases at the cardiac surgeon's discretion
