Description
RN – Behavioral Health / Psychiatric Emergency
Bronx, NY
Start Date: August 5
Contract: 13 Weeks
Shift: 3x12 Nights
Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours/week (36+ scheduled hours with a 1-hour unpaid lunch)
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of recent Adult & Adolescent Behavioral Health/Psychiatric experience
- First-time travelers welcome
- Must have recent medical experience preferred (Med-Surg, Tele, PCU, ICU, etc.)
- De-escalation and restraint experience strongly preferred
Important:
- This assignment must be your primary job.
- No part-time or second jobs permitted.
- Block scheduling is not available.
Certifications Required:
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- One of the following prior to start:
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Handle With Care
- TRUST Training
- PMCS (Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations)
- MOAB
Unit Information:
- 40-bed Behavioral Health Emergency Department
- Cares for both Adult and Adolescent patients
- Adult and Pediatric/Adolescent assignments
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6–12 depending on acuity
- Approximately 15–45 patient visits per day
Patient Population:
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar Disorder
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Anxiety
- Trauma
- Other behavioral health conditions
- Patients are generally medically stable; unstable patients are transferred.
Responsibilities:
- PO and IM medication administration
- Psychotropic medications (Haldol, Zyprexa, Ativan, etc.)
- Crisis intervention
- Patient de-escalation
- Behavioral assessments
- Early recognition of escalating behaviors
Support Staff:
- Charge Nurse
- House Supervisor
- Director
- EMTs
- Paramedics
- Patient Sitters
- Behavioral Health Aides
Additional Information:
- Travelers float first to Adult or Adolescent Psych units as needed.
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- EMR: AllScripts
- Unit-specific orientation provided over several days.
