Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D)
 

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks (91 Days)
Schedule: 3 x 12-Hour Night Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Float: First to float to Mother/Baby (Postpartum) as needed
 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level I Trauma Center and Level II Early Recognition (EQ) obstetric facility. The ideal candidate will have strong labor and delivery experience, be comfortable managing high-acuity obstetric patients, and confidently circulate and recover C-section patients. This role requires excellent fetal monitoring skills, the ability to titrate obstetric medications, and proficiency with electronic medical record documentation.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring, antepartum, and immediate postpartum patients.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout labor and delivery.
  • Perform labor assessments and interpret fetal heart monitoring.
  • Circulate and recover patients undergoing Cesarean sections.
  • Administer and titrate medications, including Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate, according to facility protocols.
  • Assist physicians during vaginal and Cesarean deliveries.
  • Educate patients and families throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatal teams, and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Accurately document patient care using Cerner EMR.
  • Float to the Mother/Baby (Postpartum) unit as needed.

Unit Information

  • 18 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) Rooms
  • 14-Bed OB Triage
  • 8-Bed Antepartum Unit
  • Approximately 8–10 deliveries per day
  • Approximately 322–344 deliveries per month
  • 2 dedicated Cesarean Section Operating Rooms
  • Level I Trauma Center
  • Level II Obstetric Care (accepts pregnancies of 28 weeks gestation and greater)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • Labor & Delivery: 2:1 (based on acuity)
  • Antepartum: 4:1
  • Cesarean Section Recovery: 1:1

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Recent Labor & Delivery experience in an acute care hospital
  • Experience circulating and recovering Cesarean Section patients
  • Experience with electronic charting (Cerner preferred)
  • Ability to interpret fetal monitoring and safely titrate obstetric drips

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment.

Schedule & Assignment Details

  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Four weekend shifts per schedule
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays if they fall during the assignment
  • No mandatory call (voluntary only)
  • First to float to Mother/Baby/Postpartum when needed
