Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks | Start Date: 07/31/2026
Unit: NNICU
Positions Available: 2
Schedule:
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (3x12s)
OR - Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3x12s)
- Self-Scheduling Model
- Every Other Weekend Required
- No On-Call
- Guaranteed Hours
Job Description:
- Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a Level IV NICU environment.
- Deliver safe, evidence-based care to neonatal patients beginning at 22 weeks gestation and above.
- Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
- Monitor, evaluate, and respond to changes in neonatal conditions using critical thinking and clinical judgment.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and specialized neonatal treatments according to established protocols.
- Initiate, maintain, and manage peripheral IVs and central lines.
- Perform central line and implanted line care while maintaining infection prevention standards.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures and obtain laboratory specimens as required.
- Manage and administer oral, nasogastric (NG), and orogastric (OG) feedings.
- Support nutrition management and monitor feeding tolerance in neonatal patients.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide family-centered care and educate parents regarding neonatal treatment plans and discharge preparation.
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Epic EMR.
- Utilize specialized communication and monitoring tools including Mobile Heartbeat / Connected Care systems.
- Float to pediatric areas within scope of practice to support operational needs.
- Participate in orientation and unit-based education to maintain competency in neonatal critical care.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License (pending license accepted but must be active before start date)
- Minimum 2 years of NICU RN experience
- Level III NICU experience required (screen carefully — do not submit candidates below requirement)
- Current BLS Certification
- Current NRP Certification
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
