Pay Package (Travel)
- Weekly Gross: $2,326.00
- Weekly Taxable: $1,080.00
- Weekly Non-Taxable: $1,246.00
Schedule
- Shift: 5:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- 9, 10, or 12-hour shifts (variable)
- 36 guaranteed hours/week
- Weekend rotation: every other to once per month (census dependent)
- On-call: One call shift per week + one weekend per month (Friday evening – Monday 5:30 AM)
- Call back time: 30 minutes | No sleep room available
- Block scheduling not guaranteed but accommodated when possible

Facility Overview
Eastern Maine Medical Center is a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center with 24/7 OR coverage and approximately 60 cases per day. The PACU/Pre-Op unit includes 37 recovery rooms — 12 for outpatients, 11 for inpatients, and 6 for overflow, staging, and extended stay. Daily staffing includes 11 nurses in PACU and 9 in Pre-Op (excluding Charge RN), with 2 nurses typically working overnight.
Position Overview
The PACU/Pre-Op RN provides pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery care across a broad spectrum of surgical cases, from simple outpatient procedures to complex inpatient surgeries. The role includes working in cardiac induction bays and assisting anesthesia as needed. Pre-op experience is required.
Surgical Case Types
- Trauma and Orthopedics (total hip, knee, shoulder arthroplasties)
- Cardiac (bypass, valve patients, emergent cardiac call)
- GYN (hysterectomies, BSOs, urinary slings, post C-section)
- Thoracic (lobectomies)
- General Surgery (colostomies, hernias, Whipples, gastric sleeve)
- GU (cystoscopy, laser lithotripsy, nephrectomies)
- Neuro (craniotomies, shunts)
- Breast (biopsies, resections)
- Endoscopy (EGDs), Interventional Radiology/Cardiology
- Pediatric cases (dental, eye surgery, pain pumps, ports)
- Anesthesia types: MAC, General, Spinal; occasional ICU/ventilated patients
Patient Ratios
- 1:1–2 (follows ASPAN guidelines)
Required Skills
- Pre-op experience (mandatory)
- Cerner EMR (mandatory)
- Insulin drips, electrolyte protocols, and Heparin protocols
- ICU experience — vent management and critical care drips
- Cardiac patient preparation and anesthesia assistance
- PALS-level pediatric care competency
Required Certifications
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- PALS
Minimum Experience
- 2–3 years in a Pre-Op/PACU setting
