Description
Travel RN – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Concord, NC
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (36 hours/week)
Shift Hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Contract Schedule: Every 6 weeks

Traveler Requirement:
- Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility.
Unit Information
- 20-bed Progressive Care Unit
- Includes 3 progressive care beds within the department
- Strong teamwork and supportive unit culture
Patient Population
- Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic (HPB) surgeries
- Whipple procedures
- Liver resections
- Distal pancreas/spleen surgeries
- Pancreatitis
- Women's Surgery
- Hysterectomies
- Mastectomies
- Plastic Surgery
- DIEP flap breast reconstruction
- Panniculectomy
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio
- Typical: 1:4–6
- During surge: 1:7–8
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of recent PCU experience
- First-time travelers are not preferred, but will be considered
Required Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN License
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Required Skills
- Surgical drain management
- Central line care
- G/J tube management
- Nasogastric (NG) tube placement and management
- Heparin drip management
- Cardiac drip management
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Post-operative surgical patient care
Department Support
- CNAs assist with:
- Blood draws
- Foley catheter insertion/removal
- Patient care
- Charge nurse assists with:
- Patient care
- Medication administration
- Admissions
- IV/Vascular Access Team available
- Night shift resource nurse/mentor
- Telemetry technicians for cardiac monitoring
Technology
- EMR: Epic
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Philips
- Additional Equipment:
- Bladder scanner
- EKG machine
- Transport monitors
- Bedside telemetry monitors
- Patient Safety Net system
Floating
- Required within Region 1 and within scope of practice.
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- 2 days of unit-specific orientation
Scheduling & Expectations
- Every other weekend
- Travelers work 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of requested time off (RTO) may be approved (excluding holidays)
- If contracted hours are not met due to approved RTO, time may be added to the end of the contract
