Travel RN – Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

Unit Overview

• Unit: Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
• Beds: 28

Patient Ratios

• 1:1 for high-acuity patients
• 1:2 for standard CVICU assignments

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• CCRN preferred

Required Experience

Candidates must have recent CVICU experience caring for:

• Open-heart surgical patients
• Cardiac surgery
• Vascular surgery
• Thoracic surgery
• ECMO
• LVAD
• Heart transplant patients

Common Patient Population

• Post-operative cardiac surgery
• Vascular surgery
• Thoracic surgery
• Mechanical circulatory support patients
• Heart transplant recipients

Critical Care Skills

Required

• Experience titrating all critical care drips
• Comfortable managing:
  • Inotropes
  • Vasopressors
  • Sedation infusions
  • Other ICU medications

Telemetry

• Continuous telemetry monitoring
• RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms

Unit Support

• 1 Charge Nurse
• 2 House Supervisors
• Intensivists and Advanced Practice Providers available 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• 1–3 CNAs assigned to the unit

Schedule

Available shifts may include:

• Days
• Nights
• Rotating shifts

(Specific shift assignment will be identified during the interview process.)

Weekend Requirements

Minimum requirements:

• Day Shift: 3 weekend ("S") days
• Rotating Shift: 3 weekend ("S") days
• Night Shift: 2 weekend ("S") days
• Plus 1 Friday and 1 Monday
  • Weekend-only staff are exempt from the Monday requirement
• Additional weekends may be required based on unit needs

Holidays

• Travelers participate in the permanent staff holiday rotation

Call

• No call or standby requirement

Floating

• Floating requirements not specified and will depend on departmental needs

Dress Code

• Royal Blue Scrubs
