Schedule
- Days, Monday – Friday
- 5x8-hour shifts (start times: 6:45, 7:00, 7:15, or 7:30 AM; end ~3:45 PM)
- 40 hours/week
- Callback rotation required
Position Overview
The Echocardiography Technician performs high-quality cardiac ultrasound imaging for adult and pediatric patients, assists with stress testing, and supports the cardiology team with TEE procedures and regional mobile echo/vascular services. The role requires strong independent judgment, advanced technical imaging skills, and proficiency in identifying and communicating cardiac abnormalities to cardiologists.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform 2D, M-Mode, color flow Doppler, pulsed and continuous-wave Doppler echocardiograms
- Use contrast echocardiography when standard imaging is suboptimal
- Assess left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic function; document wall motion abnormalities
- Identify EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias including lethal arrhythmias
- Recognize congenital and acquired cardiac pathologies and post-surgical findings
- Estimate severity of valvular insufficiencies using color flow Doppler
- Assist cardiologists with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE)
- Prepare and instruct patients for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms
- Assist with functional, pharmacological, cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing
- Perform pediatric echocardiograms with proficiency
- Obtain and correlate patient history and clinical data with exam findings
- Utilize four echocardiographic windows: parasternal, apical, subcostal, and suprasternal notch
- Select appropriate transducers and optimize imaging controls (TCG, focus, gains)
- Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics
- Complete quarterly competency in stress lab, holter monitoring, and event monitoring
- Participate in mobile echo/vascular service regionally and callback rotation
- Troubleshoot and report equipment failures
- Document all procedures accurately in the computerized documentation system
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of applicable echocardiography experience
- Proficient in recognizing structural and functional abnormalities and imaging artifacts
- Knowledge of gross and sectional cardiac anatomy
- Patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer positioning expertise
- Proficiency with software-driven testing machines and digital archive systems
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, email, web browser)
- Fluent English (read, write, speak)
Education
- Required: Associate's Degree in Ultrasound
Required Certifications & Licensure
- ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) OR CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) in Echocardiography
- BLS (American Heart Association)
