Travel RN – Surgical ICU (2E SICU) | Candidate Screening Checklist

✅ Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS

Preferred:

• TNCC

✅ Required Experience

• Strong Surgical ICU experience
• Experience caring for:
  • CABG
  • AVR/MVR
  • AAA repairs
  • Trauma patients (Level II Trauma)
  • NSTEMI/STEMI
  • Vascular surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • General surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • ENT surgery
• Comfortable with high-acuity ICU patients

Preferred Experience

• CRRT
• IABP
• Impella
• ECMO
• Immediate post-op cardiac surgery (POD 1 heart patients)

✅ Critical Care Skills

Must be comfortable titrating:

• Epinephrine
• Norepinephrine
• Vasopressin
• Dobutamine
• Milrinone
• Dopamine
• Phenylephrine (Neo)
• Propofol
• Precedex
• Heparin
• Insulin

✅ Unit Details

• Unit: 2E SICU
• Beds: 16 ICU + 2 procedural beds
• Ratios:
  • 1:1 High-acuity
  • 1:2 Standard ICU
  • 1:3 Floor-status patients

✅ Equipment

• Mechanical ventilators
• BiPAP
• Vapotherm/High Flow
• GE telemetry monitors

RN must:

• Read and interpret telemetry
• Document rhythm strips

✅ Support

• Intensivist available 24/7
• RT available 24/7
• Charge RN every shift
• House Supervisor 24/7
• Nursing Assistant (days)

✅ Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
• Low-census standby possible

✅ Floating

May float to:

• MICU
• Patient observer role (if not needed in SICU/MICU)

✅ Orientation

• Hospital onboarding & CBT
• Two precepted orientation shifts
• Skills checklist completion
