Travel RN – IMC (6N) | Candidate Screening Checklist

✅ Required Certifications

• BLS
• NIHSS

✅ Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of:
  • Telemetry RN experience
  • IMC/Stepdown RN experience
• Strong cardiac background (majority of experience should be cardiac)
• Experience with titratable IV drips
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Good work ethic

Preferred

• Previous travel nursing experience

✅ Common Patient Population

Approximately 75% cardiac patients, including:

• Pre/Post Cardiac Cath
• Pre-CABG
• Chest Pain
• NSTEMI
• CHF

Other diagnoses:

• COPD
• Pneumonia
• Diabetes
• Dialysis patients
• Altered Mental Status
• Nephrology
• Hematology
• Wound Care
• Overflow Stroke patients

Note: No post-CABG patients, but receives many procedural cardiac patients.

✅ IV Drips

Must be comfortable managing and titrating:

• Insulin
• Heparin
• Nitro
• Diltiazem (Cardizem)
• Lasix

✅ Unit Details

• Department: IMC (6N)
• Beds: 28

Patient Ratios

• Days/Evenings: 1:5 (average)
• Nights: 1:5–7 (must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)

✅ Telemetry

• 24/7 centralized Tele Tech monitoring
• Unit monitor available for nurses to verify rhythms
• Telemetry experience is required

✅ Respiratory Equipment

May care for patients using:

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High Flow Oxygen
• Vapotherm
• Nebulizers
• Chest PT

No ventilators on the unit.

✅ Support Staff

• Charge RN carries a partial assignment while serving as a resource
• CNAs:
  • Days/Evenings: ~1:9
  • Nights: ~1:14 (when full)

✅ Schedule

12-hour shifts:

• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• No self-scheduling
• Block scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed
• Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Every other holiday (EOH)
• No call requirements
• Low census/reallocation may occur in 4-hour blocks

✅ Floating

May float to:

• Other Med/Surg units
• Outside the Med/Surg cluster if needed (e.g., patient observer/1:1 assignments)
• Specialty units if the RN has prior experience

Floating assignments are rotated fairly among staff.

✅ Orientation

• 1 full 12-hour hospital/department orientation day
• 1 precepted 12-hour unit orientation shift
