🏥 Unit Overview

This assignment is for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) caring for post-operative cardiac surgery patients and medically complex cardiac patients requiring continuous monitoring.

The ideal candidate has a strong cardiac background and is comfortable caring for high-acuity step-down patients.

❤️ Patient Population

Common patients include:

Post-Open Heart Surgery
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
Valve Replacement/Repair
Cardiac Arrhythmias
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
Myocardial Infarction (MI)
Respiratory Failure
Cardiac and Pulmonary Disease
Patients requiring advanced cardiac monitoring

👩‍⚕️ RN Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

Comprehensive patient assessment
Cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation
Medication administration
Care planning and patient education
Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
Supervision of LPNs, PCTs, and Unit Secretaries
Pre- and post-procedure cardiac care
Post-operative cardiac surgery management

✅ Required Experience

Minimum Requirements

2+ years of Progressive Care or Cardiac Step-Down experience

Candidates must have experience with:

Post-operative Open Heart patients
Chest tube management
Surgical drain management
Radial and femoral access site care
Continuous cardiac monitoring
Cardiac rhythm interpretation
Recognizing and responding to rhythm changes
Cardiac and pulmonary disease management
Temporary pacemakers
Pericardial pacing wires
Transcutaneous pacing
Chest tube removal assistance
High-flow oxygen therapy
Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)
Advanced oxygen delivery systems

Critical Care experience is highly preferred.

Certifications Required

✅ Active Ohio RN License (or Compact License)
✅ BLS (AHA)
✅ ACLS (AHA

The unit primarily cares for: Post-open heart patients Cardiac surgery recovery High-acuity cardiovascular patients ✔ Advanced Cardiac Skills Required Candidates should be comfortable independently managing: Chest tubes Temporary pacemakers Cardiac monitoring Rhythm interpretation Oxygen support devices Cardiac surgery recovery ✔ Floating Must be willing to float to all units within your skill set as needed. ✔ No Call Required There is no call requirement for this assignment. ✔ Weekend Requirement Every Other Weekend ✔ Schedule Expectations The facility does not approve: Special schedule requests More than 7 days off during the assignment Requests for more than 50% of holidays off
