JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates patient responses. The RN promotes safe patient transitions throughout the healthcare encounter while minimizing preventable complications or delays.

This RN role applies to hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24/7 staffing, including procedural areas with on-call requirements such as GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, IV Services, and CVOR.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Perform accurate clinical assessments using sound clinical judgment.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify individualized nursing care plans.
  • Support evidence-based practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Create a compassionate, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Recognize and incorporate patient diversity, values, and cultural needs into care plans.
  • Advocate for patient rights, confidentiality, dignity, and ethical care.
  • Provide education to patients, families, staff, and the community.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Utilize resources efficiently while promoting patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through continuous learning, shared governance, mentoring, and community involvement.

  • Knowledge of nursing standards, patient care procedures, and hospital policies.
  • Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and nursing practice guidelines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medications, disease management, and patient safety.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and communicate effectively with providers.
  • Ability to provide age-specific, patient-centered care while adapting care plans as needed.
  • General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, scheduling, payroll systems, and email.
