NICU RN Travel Assignment – Job Summary
Important Submission Requirements
- Do NOT submit candidates with license hits involving:
- Diverting medications
- Endangerment
- These issues will result in immediate contract cancellation.
- Epic experience is 100% required.
- Minimum 2+ years of recent NICU experience (firm requirement).
Unit Information
- Unit: Level II NICU
- Beds: 20
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:3, depending on patient acuity and staffing
Required Certifications
- NRP
- BLS
Patient Population
- Extremely premature and premature infants
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)
- Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)
- Feeding intolerance
- Respiratory support patients
- Sepsis/Meningitis
- Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS/ESC)
- Hyperbilirubinemia
Required Skills & Experience
Candidates must be able to care for infants:
- Down to 32 weeks gestation or greater than 1500 grams
Must be proficient with:
- Nasal Cannula (NC)
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- CPAP
- NAVA ventilation
- Conventional ventilators
- Feeding pumps
Medication & Drips
RN must titrate drips.
Common drips include:
- Blood pressure medications
- TPN/D10
- Insulin
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Yes
- House Supervisor: Yes
- Nurse Aides: No
- Neonatologist in-house 24/7: No
- ARNP/PA coverage: Yes
Respiratory Equipment
- HFOV
- HFJV
- Conventional ventilators
- CPAP
- HFNC
- Nasal Cannula
Monitoring
- Telemetry available
- Nurses interpret telemetry strips (no monitor techs)
Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Four-week scheduling periods
Weekend Requirement
- May be scheduled every weekend
Holiday Requirement
- Possible, based on unit scheduling needs and contract
Call/Standby
- If census is low or staffing allows, travelers may be placed on standby.
Floating Requirements
May float to Pediatrics to:
- Care for NICU graduates
- Care for pediatric patients up to 12 months old
- Serve as a 1:1 sitter for behavioral health patients
- Assist with well-baby care postpartum
Dress Code
- Royal Blue scrubs
Orientation
- 1–2 orientation shifts
