Position Overview

Penn State Health is seeking experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) and Neonatal Physician Assistants (PAs) to join its Level IV, 56-bed NICU, caring for high-acuity neonatal patients. Providers will collaborate closely with Neonatologists while independently managing the daily care of critically ill newborns.

Penn State prefers providers with an active Pennsylvania license; however, candidates who have already started the PA licensing process will also be considered if they possess the required neonatal experience and procedural skills.
 

Schedule

  • Weekdays (Monday–Friday): 4:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Weekends: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 24-hour shifts available any day of the week
  • Primary coverage includes nights and weekends
  • Typically 2–3 APPs scheduled per shift

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage critically ill neonatal patients in a Level IV NICU
  • Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments and daily patient management
  • Collaborate with Neonatologists and multidisciplinary care teams
  • Participate in ground and air neonatal transport
  • Perform advanced neonatal procedures, including:
    • PICC line placement
    • UVC/UAC line placement
    • Chest tube insertion
    • Lumbar punctures
    • Neonatal intubations

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Neonatal Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Extensive Level III/IV NICU experience
  • Proficiency with all required neonatal procedures
  • Experience with neonatal transport preferred
  • BLS Certification
  • PALS Certification
  • NRP Certification
  • Cerner experience preferred

  • Long-term assignment with consistent scheduling

Credentialing

  • Estimated timeframe: 60–120 days
  • Active PA license preferred; candidates actively pursuing Pennsylvania licensure are encouraged to apply.
