Registered Nurse (Medical Acute Care) – Peoria, Illinois

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical Acute Care Unit
• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
• Location: Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius

Unit Information

• Unit Size: 20 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs):

  • Day shift ratio: 1:6 or 1:7
  • Night shift ratio: 1:10
• Charge Nurse & House Supervisor:

  • Charge nurse present 24/7, ideally without patient assignment but may take one if short-staffed
  • House supervisor available 24/7
• Telemetry:

  • Some patients on telemetry monitored by dedicated techs (Phillips monitors)
  • RNs do not read telemetry strips themselves

Patient Population

• General medical unit with common medical diagnoses

Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated
• Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) required
• Experience: General medical nursing experience required
• Skills: Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Drug Screening: Must pass a comprehensive drug screen (drug-free campus policy)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays annually
• Call/Standby: May be required depending on staffing needs
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float; otherwise, floating is on a rotation basis
• Orientation: 3 days of unit-specific orientation (non-billable)
• Scrub color/dress code: No specific color preference; scrubs not provided

• Preference given to candidates with general medical or surgical experience
• Local placement policy includes a 50-mile radius rule
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or shift payment obligation
