Registered Nurse – Orthopedic

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Orthopedic (43 beds, all private rooms)

Job Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1:4-5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-6
• Patient population includes postoperative orthopedic cases, trauma with fractures, and a wide variety of medical-surgical patients.
• Primary charge nurse present on each shift; house supervisor available 24/7.
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) support the unit with ratios of 1:7-8.
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips themselves.
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow; RNs may troubleshoot as needed.
• Travel RNs may be required to float occasionally to similar MedSurg units.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (day shift on Sat/Sun, night shift on Fri/Sat).
• No call or standby requirements.
• Dress code: professional appearance, any color scrubs allowed; tattoos and piercings must be covered.
• Orientation: two unit-specific orientation sessions required.
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
• 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred, especially in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing.
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are accepted.

Additional Notes

• Call-off policy allows the equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or shift payment.
• Travel nurses are prioritized for floating assignments when needed.
