RN Specialty: Stepdown / Medical-Surgical (Trauma/Neuro Stepdown)

Unit: 8 North East (8NE) – Stepdown/Trauma
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years experience
• Strong Stepdown/Med-Surg experience
• BLS required
• Previous permanent employees must be gone 2 years
• Previous travelers (after 1 full year assignment) must be gone 2 years
• Must submit an unexpired driver's license showing an address 50+ miles from the facility
• Can only be submitted to one WVU position at a time

Unit Overview

• 24-bed Stepdown unit
• 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Level I Trauma Center specializing in:
  • Trauma
  • Brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Respiratory patients
  • General surgery
  • Complex wound care

Clinical Skills Required

• Strong assessment skills
• Fast-paced trauma environment
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Titration of cardiac drips including:
  • Cardizem
  • Labetalol
  • Amiodarone
• Care of patients with:
  • BiPAP/CPAP
  • Chronic ventilators
  • Tracheostomies

Unit Details

• All 24 beds are telemetry monitored
• Central telemetry technicians available
• Video monitoring for patient safety
• Approximately 3 CNAs for 24 patients
• Royal blue scrubs
• Orientation with clinical preceptor

Scheduling

• Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend rotation required
• Holiday rotation required
• No call
• Travelers participate in floating rotation when needed
