RN Specialty: Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)

Unit: CVICU
Shift: Days, Nights, or Rotating (specified during interview)

Submission Requirements

• Can only be submitted to one WVU position at a time.
• Driver's license must show an address 50+ miles from the facility.
• Previous permanent employees must be separated for 2 years.
• Previous travelers who completed 1 full year must also be separated for 2 years.
• Individual unit requirements apply.
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one email.
• Only 2 candidates per opening may be submitted.
• Unexpired driver's license is required with every submission.

Requirements

• BLS required
• ACLS required
• CCRN preferred
• Recent CVICU experience caring for:
  • Cardiac surgery patients
  • Vascular surgery patients
  • Thoracic surgery patients
  • ECMO
  • LVAD
  • Heart transplant patients

Unit Overview

• 28-bed CVICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:
  • 1:1 for high-acuity patients
  • 1:2 for stable ICU patients

Clinical Skills Required

• Experience with post-operative cardiovascular critical care
• Competent in titrating:
  • Inotropes
  • Vasopressors
  • Sedation
  • All critical care drips
• Ventilator management
• Telemetry interpretation (RNs must read rhythm strips)

Staffing & Support

• 1 Charge Nurse
• 2 House Supervisors
• 1–3 CNAs
• Intensivists and Advanced Practice Providers available 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7

Scheduling

• Available shifts:
  • Days
  • Nights
  • Rotating
• Weekend requirements:
  • Day Shift: 3 weekend ("S") days/month
  • Night Shift: 2 weekend ("S") days/month
  • Rotating: 3 weekend ("S") days/month
  • Plus 1 Friday and 1 Monday (except designated weekenders)
  • Additional weekends may be required based on unit needs
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• No call required
