Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D)


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Travel Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional care for mothers and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum period. The ideal candidate will have strong obstetrical nursing experience, excellent fetal monitoring skills, and the ability to respond quickly during high-risk deliveries and obstetric emergencies. The L&D RN collaborates closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and provide nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Monitor fetal heart rate patterns, uterine contractions, and maternal status using electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, epidural support, and other therapies as prescribed.
  • Assist physicians and midwives with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, inductions, and obstetric procedures.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies, including fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, preeclampsia/eclampsia, and emergency C-sections.
  • Provide newborn stabilization and immediate post-delivery care until transfer to the appropriate unit.
  • Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, postpartum recovery, and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Accurately document assessments, fetal monitoring strips, medications, interventions, and patient progress in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain compliance with patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and hospital policies.
  • Float to postpartum, mother-baby, nursery, or other women's services units when required and within competency.
