Description
Join a fast-paced ED Holding/Float Pool team caring for adult patients awaiting inpatient placement. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Med/Surg-Tele nurses who are comfortable managing high-acuity patients and floating to multiple units.
Position Overview
This ED Holding Unit is located within the Emergency Department and provides care for adult medical/surgical patients awaiting admission to inpatient units. Nurses may also care for PCU-level patients and should be comfortable floating to the Emergency Department and Med/Surg units as needed.
Patient Ratios
- Med/Surg-Tele: 1:6
- PCU Level: 1:4
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Experience in Med/Surg-Tele
- Active NC or Compact RN License (pending license accepted for submission)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Required Clinical Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Rapid Response Team experience
- Blood product administration
- Peripheral IV, PICC line management, and phlebotomy
- Heparin and insulin administration
- Renal failure management
- Feeding tube and colostomy care
- Chest tube management
- CPAP/BiPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Tracheostomy care
- Oxygen therapy and non-invasive airway management
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Isolation precautions
Preferred Experience
- NIHSS
- IV insulin protocols
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis
- Central line blood draws
- Accessing ports
- Starting IVs
- CVA, Neuro, Orthopedic Trauma
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Total Joint Replacements
- Wound Vac/Wound Care
