Department: MedSurg | Neuro
Ortho/spine/stroke experience is good, but neuro (aka a unicorn) is a plus!
- Unit: Medical Surgical Boise Hospital Flr 9 - Neuro
- # of Beds: 34
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
- Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients: Neuro: stroke, spine/back surgeries, cranial surgeries (usually don't give to travelers), neck surgeries, medical neuro disorders, neuro intervention procedures, Guillain-Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, seizures, EEG monitoring. Any surgery accessing the nerves. Average patient length of stay is 2-5 days. Neuroscience NPs staff 24/7 and provide support for all neuro surgery and neuro intervention patients. Serves a large geographic area and is the only site for neurosurgery.
- Experience or 'Must Have' Skills: Must have 2 years of experience with a solid MedSurg or Tele background; stroke experience preferred. First-time travelers accepted.
- Are RNs Required to Titrate Drips: No
- Common Titratable &/or Set Rate Drips: N/A
- Is There a Charge Nurse on Each Shift: Charge RN with no patient assignment. House Supervisor supports the entire Boise Hospital. Two Assistant Managers on nights and one on days are available.
- Are There Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs on This Unit: CNAs at a 1:8 ratio.
- RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, Trachs. RT available as a resource.
- Are There Tele/Monitor Techs on This Unit: Not yet. Will be getting tele monitors (Philips). Workflow to be determined.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 7:00-7:00. Managers create the schedule. Travelers are scheduled where needed. They try to keep night shifts at 3 in a row (not guaranteed), with staffing based primarily on unit needs.
- Weekend Requirement: If there is a need.
- Holiday Requirement: If there is a need.
- Is There Call or a Standby Requirement: No
- Floating Requirements: Yes, floats to support all Treasure Valley Med-Surg areas. Travelers are first to float.
- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided: No specific color, as long as scrubs are clean and professional.
- How Many Shifts of Unit/Department Specific Orientation: Yes; 2 unit orientation days + 1 didactic day with the unit-based educator.
