Job Overview:
W.W. Hastings Hospital is seeking an experienced and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join its Women's Health & Obstetrics team. The Midwife will provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, and gynecologic care while working independently and collaboratively with OB/GYN physicians to ensure safe maternal and neonatal outcomes.
The ideal candidate is experienced in managing low-risk pregnancies, conducting vaginal deliveries independently, recognizing obstetrical emergencies, and providing compassionate patient-centered care throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
This position requires 24-hour in-house coverage, providing continuous labor management and delivery services during scheduled shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently manage labor and perform spontaneous vaginal deliveries for low-risk pregnancies.
- Provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
- Conduct comprehensive obstetric assessments and monitor maternal and fetal well-being.
- Interpret fetal heart monitoring strips and recognize abnormal fetal patterns.
- Perform cervical examinations and monitor labor progression.
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and promptly collaborate with OB/GYN physicians when higher-level intervention is required.
- Manage obstetrical emergencies until physician support is available.
- Provide postpartum assessments for both mother and newborn.
- Educate patients and families regarding pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care, contraception, and reproductive health.
- Develop individualized patient care plans based on evidence-based practice.
- Prescribe medications, diagnostic tests, and treatments within CNM scope of practice.
- Accurately document patient assessments and clinical interventions in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, anesthesia, pediatrics, and ancillary staff.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention guidelines, and patient safety standards.
- Provide emotional support and counseling throughout pregnancy and delivery.

Required Qualifications:
- Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Certification
- Active Oklahoma License or Compact License (if applicable under state requirements)
- Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Midwifery Program
- Current BLS Certification (AHA Preferred)
- Minimum 2–3 years of recent Certified Nurse Midwife experience (preferred)
- Recent Labor & Delivery experience
- Experience independently managing vaginal deliveries
- Strong fetal monitoring interpretation skills
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hospital-based Labor & Delivery experience
- Experience in Tribal, Rural, or Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
- ACLS Certification
- Experience managing obstetric emergencies
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
