HOT JOB: NICU LEVEL III RN – 3x12 DAYS (MISSION HILLS, CA)
Sia Hayes at First Connect Health is fast-tracking applications for an experienced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse. This is a 13-week contract at a premier 377-bed Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Mission Hills, CA. The unit offers an immediate selection pipeline, self-scheduling flexibility, and a welcoming environment for first-time travelers!
POSITION QUICK-FACTS
- Start Date: 08/03/2026 (13 Weeks)
- Shift: 07:00 AM - 19:00 PM | 3x12-Hour Days
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling is utilized. Block scheduling is not guaranteed and is subject entirely to manager discretion.
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours weekly. Note: The facility policy allows for a maximum of 1 low-census call-off per two-week pay period.
- Weekend Requirements: Equivalent to every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 additional Fridays per 6-week schedule block.
- On-Call Mandate: None – No call required!
- Systems & Charting: Epic EMR (Prior Epic experience is highly preferred).

THE CLINICAL MATRIX
- The Environment: A highly specialized 18-bed, 18-room Level III NICU maintaining an average daily census of 15 patients.
- Patient Ratios: Outstanding staffing ratios at 1:2 across days, nights, and weekends (Up to 1:3 depending on low acuity/census mix).
- Clinical Case Mix: Comprehensive high-acuity neonatal care covering extreme prematurity (ELBW from 23/24 weeks), Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), Sepsis/Presumed Sepsis, Transient Tachypnea (TTN), Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), and severe feeding intolerances.
- Specialized Modality & Equipment:
- Ventilation: Conventional, Non-invasive, NAVA, HFOV, Jet Ventilation, Oscillators, and High-Flow Nasal Cannulas (HFNC).
- Procedures: Umbilical central lines (UAC/UVC), PICC lines, chest tubes, passive cooling, and Therapeutic Hypothermia (cooling blankets).
- Nutrition: Strong focus on donor human milk and Prolacta human-milk-based fortifiers. Cue-based feeding models are preferred.
- Delivery Attendance Rule: NICU contract nurses will NOT be attending deliveries.
- Float Scope (Baby Transition/Nursery): Floating to the nursery or a transition role is not a routine occurrence. However, if delivery volumes spike, you may float as a "Baby Transition Nurse." Responsibilities include immediate post-birth routine vitals, head-to-toe assessments, promoting skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding support, and routine labs.
- Dress Code: Any color professional scrubs (L&D and OR scrubs are provided directly by the facility if needed).
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS (HARDSTOPS)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent, dedicated Level III NICU experience. First-time travel nurses are fully accepted!
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted California (CA) state RN license must be active and in-hand at the time of submission. Pending licenses will not be considered.
- Certifications: Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and a valid LA Fire Card are required.
- Background & Compliance: Clean background profile is required. Local candidates are accepted.
- Time Off Constraints: All Requested Time Off (RTO) must be explicitly disclosed and included at the exact time of profile submission.
