Job Description

Job Function 1: Assessment Skills
Has competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately. Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive and accurate.

Job Function 2: Clinical Skills
Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills. Performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept. Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit. Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.

Job Function 3: Documentation
Maintains complete and accurate documentation. Demonstrates knowledge of documentation guidelines. Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient's progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient's chart including patient education.

Job Function 4: Professionalism
Demonstrates professional practice responsibility. Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures and is able to identify areas for clinical and professional growth.

Job Function 5: Patient Satisfaction
Consistently responds to patients/families and co-workers in a professional, courteous, positive manner to promote an environment where the patient and family is at the center and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goals and objectives. Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.

Job Function 6: Safety
Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals including following Universal Protocol and identifying patients utilizing 2 patient identifiers. Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.

Job Function 7: Unit Specific Job Function
Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures and equipment encountered for surgical patients. Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care. Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions.

Job Function 8: Responsibility and Accountability
Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care by prioritizing the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.

Job Function 9: Patient Education and Chart Completion
Assesses patients' understanding of surgical procedure/instructions, actively including the patient and family members in teaching. Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education.

Job Function 10: Duties Specific to PAT RN
Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner. Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.

Physical Requirements:
As defined by Occupation Safety/OMS

Skills

  • 1 year experience
  • BLS - Required
  • RN License - Required
  • CNOR - Preferred

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree - Preferred

Additional Requirement

  • Should be able to circulate and scrub some of our major specialties:
    • Orthopedic
    • Neuro
    • Vascular
    • Robotic
