THE CLINICAL MATRIX
- The Role: This is a true Float Pool position with no designated home unit. You will report daily to the department supervisor to be deployed where census or acuity demands support.
- The Deployment Footprint: While your primary, baseline care assignments will focus on Medical-Surgical and Telemetry floors (1:6 staffing ratio), you must be fully competent and willing to float as an advanced support resource across Med-Surg, Behavioral Health (BH), the Emergency Department (ED), the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and select post-procedural recovery areas.
- Infusion/Titration Scope: Proven clinical proficiency and comfort independently managing, tracking, and titrating these critical IV drips: Heparin, Insulin, Lasix, Amiodarone, Diltiazem, and Digoxin.
- Telemetry Competency: Must be completely independent in reading, measuring, and interpreting EKG/ECG cardiac rhythm strips and identifying active dysrhythmias.
- Onboarding Note: Candidates must successfully complete a Basic Dysrhythmia Assessment during onboarding with a passing score of 80% or greater.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS (HARDSTOPS)
- Experience: Minimum 24 months (2 years) of current, dedicated acute care experience in Progressive Care (PCU), Stepdown, Med-Surg, or Telemetry. First-time travel nurses are fully accepted provided they meet the 2-year hospital baseline.
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted Iowa (IA) state RN license or valid multi-state Compact license must be active and in-hand at the time of submission.
- Certifications: Active American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS and ACLS certificates are required at submission.
- Specialized Certifications:
- De-Escalation: A recognized certificate (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) is required.
- Stroke Scale: An active NIHSS certificate is highly preferred.
- (Note: Both De-Escalation and NIHSS certifications can be completed during the onboarding window if not currently active).
- Employment Separation Restriction: Any past staff employee (FTE) or PRN float pool employee of the parent healthcare network (UnityPoint Health) cannot work as a contractor here if they have been separated for less than 12 months. (This restriction does not apply if your past network experience was strictly through an outside travel agency).
- Geographic Rule [CRITICAL]: Travel candidates only. This facility maintains a strict 50-mile radius restriction. Local applicants living within 50 miles of the Waterloo, IA campus will not be considered.
REQUIRED SUBMISSION PROFILE DOCUMENTS
Your submission profile must include the following completed documentation up front:

- Skills Checklist specific to Med-Surg/Telemetry or PCU (completed within 1 year).
- Primary source verification showing an active IA or Compact nursing license.
