🔥 HIGH-ACUITY LEVEL IV NICU RN CONTRACT – MAGNET-DESIGNATED CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

 

First Connect Health has an immediate 13-week travel opening for a highly specialized Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) in Madison, Wisconsin. Operating within a state-of-the-art, 26-bed Level IV NICU at the nationally recognized American Family Children's Hospital, this role centers on comprehensive care for critically ill newborns and complex surgical neonates. If you possess expert-level pediatric competencies, strong Epic charting habits, and want to collaborate with a leading academic medical center team, this contract is tailored for you!

 

Please note: Level IV experience is a non-negotiable hard stop for this position. First-time travel nurses with verified Level IV institutional background markers are subject to screening for acceptance.

 

💰 PRE-CALCULATED PAY PACKAGE

  • Weekly Gross: $2,282.00
  • Weekly Tax-Free Stipend: $1,526.00
  • Hourly W2 Rate: $21.00/hr
  • Overtime Rate: $31.50/hr

📅 SHIFT & POSITION DETAILS

  • Schedule: Day/Evening shifts, 12-Hours (07:00 AM - 19:30 PM). Block scheduling is not available for this assignment.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 regular hours guaranteed weekly.
  • Patient Ratios: High-acuity structural models tracking tightly at 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient instability.
  • Weekend Requirements: Required to complete 4–6 weekend shifts total per contract, typically distributed as 2–3 weekends per 6-week block.
  • EMR Charting System: Epic experience is required (ideally utilized within the last 12 months).
  • Clinical Scope & Diagnoses: Level IV surgical and medical neonatal care. Caseloads include high-acuity infants requiring pre- and post-op surgical interventions (abdominal, thoracic, genitourinary, neurological, craniofacial, and complex congenital heart lines). Managed conditions involve therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blankets), VP shunts, micro-premature infants (<24–28 weeks), gastroschisis, omphalocele, and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).
  • Ventilation & Advanced Equipment: Direct management of complex respiratory support including high-frequency ventilation, oscillators, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Vapotherm, UAC/UVC placement, and ventilators (Draeger, Servo, NAVA).

🚨 REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUBMISSION

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of total NICU experience, with at least 1 full year of dedicated Level IV NICU experience within the last 3 years.
  • Licensure: Valid Wisconsin State Nursing License or a valid Multi-State Compact RN License must be fully active at submission.
  • Certifications Required: Active Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications are strictly required. PALS certification is highly preferred.
  • Vaccine Guidelines: Full compliance with standard facility Influenza vaccination rules is required (approved medical or religious exemptions are accepted). COVID-19 vaccine is not required.

📍 Strict 50-Mile Geographical Local Radius Rule: A rigid 50-mile local radius policy applies to this system. Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility campus center are not accepted under these system travel parameters. 🚗 Mandatory Pediatric Unit Floating Policy: Travelers are required to float first to meet immediate clinical needs across all children's hospital (AFCH) units, including the PICU, to care for pediatric patients less than 12 months of age. Refusal to float results in immediate termination and forfeiture of guaranteed hours. ⚡ Mandatory Pre-Start Pass/Fail Pediatric Telemetry Exam: Clinicians must clear a strict pediatric telemetry interpretation exam prior to their official start date. Testing parameters permit a maximum of 2 initial attempts with a required passing threshold of 80% or higher, requiring 100% accuracy on pediatric lethal rhythms (V-Fib, V-Tach, Asystole, and Sinus Bradycardia). 🅿️ Parking Information: Onsite parking requires a permit through UW Transportation; alternative local transit, park & ride networks, or private parking options are available in the Madison area. 🏖️ Upfront Requested Time Off (RTO) Limits: A maximum of 2 pre-approved RTO block requests can be detailed under current system guidelines. All desired time off must be explicitly disclosed at the exact moment of initial submission. 📋 Hard Submission Vetting Checklist: Submittals must include explicit RTO notes, verified license status, and complete copies of active certifications (BLS, NRP). Professional references are excluded from the initial Tier 3 submission package. Onboarding includes 20 non-billable orientation hours.
