Registered Nurse – NICU Transport
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights, 3x12s (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM)
Start Date: 08/17/2026
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced NICU Transport Registered Nurse to provide specialized neonatal and pediatric critical care transport services. The ideal candidate will have extensive NICU experience, strong pediatric assessment skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality care during ground and/or air transport of critically ill neonates and pediatric patients.
Requirements
- Minimum 2,000 hours of NICU experience required
- Pediatric experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- No travel experience required
- Experience caring for neonatal and pediatric critical care patients
Required Certifications
- BLS
- NRP
- PALS
Required Skills & Experience
Neonatal & Pediatric Critical Care
- NICU and PICU transport experience
- Management of prematurity, HIE, RDS, and hyperbilirubinemia
- Care of pediatric patients with asthma, appendicitis, respiratory distress, and acute illnesses
- 1:1 patient care experience
Respiratory
- Assist/manage intubation
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Chest tube management
- ETT and NT suctioning
Medications & Emergency Care
- Anti-seizure medication administration
- Pediatric dosage calculations
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Use of Broselow system
IV Therapy & Procedures
- Central line blood draws
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- TPN/Lipid administration
- UA/UV placement
- Urinary catheter insertion and management
Additional Clinical Skills
- Hypothermia protocol
- Hyperthermia management
- NG tube insertion and management
- Insulin administration and insulin pump management
- Telemetry monitoring
- Infection control and PPE compliance
- Basic orthopedic care including fracture/cast management
Responsibilities
- Provide safe transport of neonatal and pediatric patients requiring higher levels of care.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring during transport.
- Administer medications and therapies according to established protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams during transport missions.
- Manage emergency situations and rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to patient safety standards.
