Description
Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown Registered Nurse – Nights
- Schedule: 3x12 Nights (19:00 - 07:30) | 13 Weeks | 36 Hours Guaranteed
- Scheduling Rotation: Expect a dynamic, rotating schedule covering weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Travelers are placed directly into the standard department holiday/weekend rotation matrix.
- The Unit: A 32-bed intermediate care environment comprised entirely of private rooms. The floor functions as an inpatient acute care stepdown setting.
- Patient Care Ratios: Highly structured clinical pacing maintaining a 1:3 to 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Orientation & Charting: 2-day rapid onboarding (1 day with the facility education team followed by 1 day of direct floor orientation). Epic EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems are utilized.
- Dress Code: Professional scrubs of any color or pattern style are permitted.
- Cancellation Policy: The facility may cancel a maximum of 12 hours of scheduled clinical time per 13-week contract without penalty.

- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Intermediate Care / Stepdown experience is required.
- Licensure: Active Illinois (IL) RN license must be in-hand or explicitly verified as "willing to wait" on processing if the application is currently active with the state board.
- Required Certifications [IN-HAND]:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active AHA ACLS
- Active NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
Clinical Skill Matrix [HARDSTOP]:
⚠️ CLINICAL MANDATE: Candidates must demonstrate independent proficiency in reading, interpreting, and troubleshooting telemetry strips and must be completely comfortable managing, assessing, and troubleshooting active chest tubes.
- Floating Protocols: Travel nurses are designated as the first tier to float when hospital census fluctuates.
- If a traveler possesses documented, extensive ICU experience, they may float to the Intensive Care Unit (1:2 ratio).
- Otherwise, they will float to General Med/Surg floors and must manage a standard floor workload of 5 to 6 patients.
